Institute of Caribbean Studies Founder & President meets with Houston Caribbean Leaders

On Wednesday April 9, 2014, members of Houston's growing Caribbean-American and immigrant community met with the Founder and President of The Institute of Caribbean Studies, Dr. Claire Nelson at a "Meet & Greet" held at Houston Caribbean dining establishment, Cool Runnings Jamaican Grill. 

 

Dr. Nelson, whom in 2012 was a recipient of The White House Champions of Change Award, spoke to the group about involvement in the upcoming Caribbean Heritage Month events in local cities and invitation to attend Caribbean Heritage Month Legislative Week in Washington DC, joining other fellow Caribbean-American leaders in the weeklong event that includes: Central American Connection, White House Briefing and Lobby Day on Capitol Hill. 

Texas Representative Alma Allen - Special Guest Speaker at Houston Caribbean Business and Non-Profit Forum 

The celebration of National Caribbean-American Heritage Month in Houston, Texas is in full swing. Organizations, individuals and institutions have come together to mark the occasion.

 

Houston’s Cool Runnings Jamaican Grill hosted the second annual “Open for Business and Non-Profit Reception” on June 14. State Representative Alma Allen was the scheduled guest speaker at the event.

Caribbean Flags Wave inside Houston City Hall

June 6, 2014: Members of Houston’s Caribbean-American and immigrant community gathered at the chambers of City Hall on Tuesday June 3rdand joined City Council Members and Mayor Annise Parker for a ceremony to proclaim June as Caribbean Heritage Month in Houston Texas.
